Shepherd Wheel Workshop - Historical Site
Before Sheffield was a steel town, it was a knife-sharpening town. No, not kidding. The power of water was typically used to mill grains, but here, it turns a series of belts that turn grinding wheels of different sizes.
The Shepherd Wheel Workshop is open to public and, though no sharpening happens, it's fully functional, as if all the workers went on break just a few moments before. Cared for by a host of volunteers, it's free to the public to enjoy. And it's in a beautiful area, with miles of easy hiking along a bubbling stream. Sheila recorded a couple of One Minute Memories while we were there, including one of the turning belts and pulleys.
