ShEvo vs. The World

Pizza in France...

Since arriving in France, we have eaten in. We haven't eaten in this often since we were young and poor! When Evo and I first met, we made a shockingly low amount of money. We had to budget every dollar we spent, which is quite similar to what we are doing now.

Tonight, we decided to try a nice restaurant in Corlay. At 5:20 pm, Evo decided he was starving to death and we needed to eat immediately! We bundled up and walked the short distance to town. And as I suspected, the restaurant wasn't open. No hours posted, but looked like they were preparing to open. How soon, we couldn't tell. And I could tell Evo didn't have the patience to wait any time at all. So we walked back towards our temporary home, vowing to return tomorrow, if not a little later.

As we walked along, we came across a pizza shop that I had thought had gone out of business. Surprise! It was actually open. Deciphering the menu wasn't as hard as I imagined, and we were able to order a salmon pizza (yes, you did read that right). The proprietor took our order, but indicated in broken English (better than our non-existent French) that they didn't actually open until 7p, so we'd have to wait until then to pick up the pizza.

So what do you do when you have an hour and a half to wait? Go to the nearest pub! Evo started with a Stella and I had a coffee (probably not the best idea at 5:30 pm, but when in France...) and then we both had a Stella blended withs some odd orange liqueur. It was an interesting and markedly un-Stella flavor, but I probably won't do it again.

At 7:00, we picked up our pizza and walked the short distance back to the house. We could smell the salmon, though we couldn't see it. And don't let the smell scare you: It wasn't overpowering. And it was crazy good! It had a nice light crust and all the ingredients were in balance with each other. With only a few more days in France, we're pretty sure we'll go back. Or we may try to have a late lunch tomorrow and actually attempt to eat in the restaurant we intended tonight. We shall see...
