City Guide to Knutsford, England from The Opportunistic Travelers
We spent three weeks in Knutsford, England. We were pleasantly surprised by this bedroom community just outside of Manchester. It's home to an interesting mix of people and places that cross socio-economic lines. We made some great friends in Knutsford in our shot time there and are looking forward to going back!
Knutsford, England In Pictures
While in Knutsford, Sheila took 407 photos of the town and a few nearby cities. Below is a sampling of some of those from the area. The full set is on Flickr.
Sometimes it's the quirky things that catch my eye. Like these two wooden statues found next to the fireplace in the house where we stayed. No, not very English. But quirky!
These little white flowers were showing up all over the place. We think they're called "snowdrops".
Places To Visit In Knutsford, England
Pricing is more than reasonable. They are attentive, spend an inordinate amount of time with their clients. And they're quite friendly. Even better -- I'm getting better, thanks to the great staff at Elite Health!
If you’re in town on the 1st Sunday of the month, you’re in for a treat. The whole of Princess Street is blocked off for an outstanding open marketplace put on by Makers Market.
Audio Expeditions For Knutsford, England
Now that we've achieved minor celebrity status, it's time to say goodbye to Knutsford England. We've certainly made our mark!
Weighty topics, indeed. But everything goes better with pie, especially when there's music at the end.
While we're not yet thrilled by the beer, the food in England has been surprisingly good. And sometimes, overly surprising.
One Minute Memories of Knutsford, England
Our friends back in The States missed this year's solar eclipse. Luckily, we were in north west England where we had about 85% totality.
Another shot of the same stream posted yesterday, but with less babbling. Over Peover was a lovely walk!
We took the dogs out for a walk in Over Peover and came across this babbling brook. I had to stop and capture the memory.
The fog was striking today, so I captured this memory from a different angle. You'll probably hear a bit more traffic noise, as the road is just off to the left of the screen.
The Heath is a spot we take the dogs to walk and chase tennis balls. It's a big open area with woods on one side and the other three sides are surrounded by roads.
While driving in Macclesfield we saw this field with sheep and couldn't resist stopping for a quick One Minute Memories video.
We're trying something new. We are giving short, quick videos of the sights and sounds we the things we are experiencing. This one is from Rostherne Mere, a pretty little lake nearby.
Food Choices In Knutsford, England
Situated a few miles south of town, Seven Sisters draws a crowd all the time. They offer a dozen or so flavors of ice cream, all of which are quite nice.
Sometimes, you just need a quick kebab. Or a pizza. Because that makes sense together. Just don’t need these things during lunch, because Babylon, a takeaway place, doesn’t open until the evening. Odd.
"The best Indian food in Knutsford!" That’s what local Rowan Elliott told us, so we tried it. We can’t verify the statement, as Mughli was the only Indian food we had in town. But we can say it was very, very tasty and worth the trip!
There are several levels of Italian food in Knutsford. Cheap places for pizza and pasta, expensive spots for fine Italian dining, and then there’s Med21, sitting right in the middle.
Just a five mile drive from Knutsford, you’ll find The Bull’s Head in Mobberly. Every town in England has a pub called the Bull’s Head. But this is the one that has the best fish and chips Sheila found in Cheshire
If you’ve a hankering for American food while you’re in Knutsford, you’ll want to try Jack Rabbits. It’s sort of like an upper-scale Chilis, which doesn’t sound great. But it was!
To say we loved the Cheese Yard is a bit of an understatement. We went at least four different times, thrice (see how British I’ve become?) to buy cheese, and once for a wine and cheese event.
The Old Sessions House -- or #TOSH, as it’s known -- is a little on the posh side of things. The beer selection is standard. And the kitchen does a good job on the food.
We ate at the Angel once and found the food was pretty tasty. Of the still-proud-to-be-a-pub-and-serve-pub-food places, it’s probably the best in town and draws a regular crowd for supper.
Bars & Pubs In Knutsford, England
Low ceilings are nothing unusual in Kuntsford pubs. But in The White Bear, even Sheila found herself ducking from time to time. It’s a popular place, thanks largely to it’s location right at the roundabout. You literally cannot miss seeing the bar as you come into town.

If gritty bars are your thing, then The Cross Keys is for you. We stopped in a few times while we were in town.
If we had to pick a favorite pub in Knutsford, it’d be The Lord Eldon. They’ve a decent selection of “real ale”, and a more modest selection of English ales in bottles. But one of those was the Guinness Porter, arguably the best of the Guinness lineup.

People Who Made Knutsford, England Special
Adam Armstrong is one of the talented musicians we met at The Eldon one night. He’s only 21, but has developed a personal style of performance that we really enjoyed.
Every group of musicians needs a patriarch, and David plays the role well. He’s an accomplished musician who’s toured the states a few years back.
Rick is a local craft beer fan who was our first international stalking victim!
Rowan kicked Evo’s ass while we were in Knutsford. Well, his back. And he didn’t kick it as much as he gave it a good beating. Rowan Eliot is a personal trainer and sports massage therapist who works out of Elite Health.
Guess what we found a few miles from Knutsford? A huge radio telescope at the Jodrell Bank Discovery Center! Buzz Aldrin and Brian Cox were here just the day before. Yeah, we missed them.
